The toing and froing in the contract situations surrounding two of Celtic’s most prominent young stars is set to reach a conclusion. Celtic have gone back to the players’ agents to make the club’s best possible offer.

We’re talking about Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata, both of whom have been training with the first team squad and both having seen first team action this season with Vata hitting the back of the net in the Scottish Cup win over Buckie Thistle before Kelly got his first Celtic goal against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

Both those goals could be both their first and last for Celtic unless a contract agreement is reached imminently. Vata is out of contract at the end of June while Kelly’s current deal runs out at the end of the year, meaning he will be free to sign a pre-contract elsewhere if that’s the way he wants to progress his career.

Both players are we understand keen to remain at Celtic so hopefully the earlier barriers have been addressed by Celtic’s new, improved and final offers to both players.

Journalist Scott Burns at Daily Record has provided an update this afternoon and notes that if the Irish Under 21 international forward decides to move to Italy, with numerous clubs interested, Celtic will receive just £300,000 for a development fee. Vata also has interest from England.

Both Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly were seen on the pitch at Rugby Park last Wednesday night after Celtic’s 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock secured another title win for the club.

Meanwhile Mikey Johnston’s loan spell at West Brom has ended with the West Midlands side failing in the play-offs so will be staying in the Championship next season. Whether they see Johnston as a viable signing for their next attempt at winning a return to the Premier League remains to be seen.

Brendan Rodgers when asked by The Celtic Star indicated that he’d be looking at Johnston returning to Celtic to play his part next season.
